dominos copyLet me start by telling you a story about how very small changes can have a huge impact – like a ‘domino effect’.  You see too many of you think that becoming the go-to goalie in your league is complicated (probably because people are over complicating things).

In fact it is extremely simple, that’s what my client Myles discovered over the last while.

You see Myles, was just like many of you.  At an early age he was cut year after year from the AAA team, then the AA team and he wound up playing house league hockey…and that is where he stayed, until I met him when he was in 10th grade.

It wasn’t his fault, he was a little slower to develop than some of the other kids and he trusted the coaches’ judgement – he was a house league goalie.

Myles loved hockey and loved being a goalie, he kept his team in the game season after season, it was great fun playing with his friends and his game developed over time.

After repeatedly being cut, even he was starting to believe what he had been taught year after year – he was a house league caliber goalie.

That is when we met.  I actually had a chance encounter with his Dad and that is when the transformation started.

When I met Myles I noticed that he was carrying a few extra pounds – he later told me that is why he started as a goalie when he was younger, he always carried a little extra ‘baby fat’.

When we started working together I saw that he had good body awareness and movement skills but he was lacking some of the mobility that would let him get into a perfect position to make the save.  He was leaving a few little holes that AAA shooters would capitalize on.

He was in exactly the right position, but his lack of the proper mobility presented opportunity for the puck to squeeze in.

What he didn’t know was that those sessions did nothing at all to improve his speed or lateral movements – you can run stairs all day, it won’t make you faster.

He was also never given the simple, but specific, stretching techniques that would add 3 more inches to his butterfly flare in less than two weeks.  It wasn’t his fault.  It wasn’t even the trainers fault, neither one of them knew any better.

So what did we do?  We got his basic nutrition on track (dropped 11lbs of fat) and added in some high intensity interval training that developed his speed and agility, while giving him the stamina to play strong through the third period and into overtime if necessary.

We worked on a strategic, proven system that would improve his goalie specific mobility to seal up those gaps between his pads and the ice and we made his core stronger so he could stay tall and dominant in the net while moving in any direction.

Well, the first few months, his save percentage steadily crept up.  He stood on his head at the last two tournaments of the season and was even named best goalie at one of them.

His team did not win either tournament, which frustrated Myles, but he was pleased with his performance.

Q: How long will it take for my program to arrive in the mail?

ANSWER: This program is entirely downloadable, so nothing will be sent to you in the mail.  I don’t even own a hard copy of the program.  But don’t worry, you don’t need to have a computer science degree to access your training program.  The workouts are in PDF format, so if you know how to click on a file and save it, you will be fine.  The videos are in MP4 format, so if you can watch YouTube videos on your computer, then you should be fine.

Q: How long will it take for me to start seeing results?

ANSWER:  Well, this depends entirely on you and your commitment to the program.  If you consistently follow the program as it is outlined (without skipping the exercises you don’t like) then you should start noticing improvements on the ice in the first two weeks.  For example, typically goalies will improve their butterfly flare about 3-inches in the first 14-days.

Q: What equipment do I need if I want to do the training at home?

ANSWER: I created the program so you could do it at home or at the gym.  If you want to train at home you will need a few pairs of dumbbells, a couple different resistance bands and a stability ball would be helpful.  If you have a medicine ball, that is great, but you do not need to have one.
